چکیده

Gallstone ileus was first described by Bartholine in 1654, as mechanical intraluminal obstruction, caused by impaction of gallstone in the bowel lumen. The disease occurs more frequently in women than in men, in a ratio of 6:1. And mostly affecting ages over 65 years. Spontaneous biliary enteric fistula was found in 0.9% of patients undergoing biliary tract procedures. In fact, most spontaneous fistulas result from complication of gallstone disease. Biliary enteric fistulas occur in about 1% of patients with acute cholecystitis. Chronic inflammation of gallbladder may follow acute cholecystitis, but usually developed insidiously. The most common communication of the fistula is between gallbladder and duodenum, followed by colon and stomach.

Recurrent gallstone ileus.

Mechanical small bowel obstructions caused by gallstones account for 1% to 3% of cases. In these patients, 80% to 90% of residual gallstones in these patients will pass through a remaining fistula without consequence. Recurrent gallstone ileus has been reported in 5% of patients. We report the case of a woman, aged 72 years, who presented with mechanical small bowel obstruction caused by gallst...

Gallstone ileus associated with impaction at Meckel’s diverticulum: Case report and literature review

Gallstone ileus due to erosion of one or more gallstones into the gastrointestinal tract is an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction. The site of impaction is usually distal ileum, and less commonly the jejunum, colon, duodenum, or stomach. We report a rare case of gallstone ileus with impaction at the proximal small bowel and at a Meckel's diverticulum (MD) in a 64-year-old woman managed w...

Pneumobilia: A Case Report and Literature Review on its Surgical Approaches

Gallstones ileus is an uncommon cause but important cause of small bowel obstruction. The gallstone enters the intestinal lumen via a fistula located in the duodenum (cholecystoduodenal), or rarely, in the colon (cholecystocolonic) or stomach (cholecystogastric). This may result in large bowel or gastric outlet obstruction (Bouveret's Syndrome). Gallstone ileus affects the elderly females pre-d...

Gallstone ileus 30 years status postcholecystectomy.

Gallstone ileus is an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction which occurs in patients with chronic cholecystitis and gallstones who develop a cholecystoenteric fistula. Although gallstone ileus is relatively rare, it has a substantial mortality rate due in part to patient comorbidities and delays in treatment. We describe the case of a 94-year-old woman who presented with nausea, vomiting, m...
